Sustainable bean bag filling

I like bean bag chairs, I know they are not elegant or fashionable, but I think they are really comfortable. They are also incredibly easy to make, you just sew a big bag and fill it up.

And that is where the prolem comes, the usual thing to fill it with is those little styrofoam plastic beans, which I'm guessing are pretty terrible for the environment when it is time to finally get rid of them.

So, my question is, what can I fill one with that is more sustainable?

I read something about using old clothes but that's not going to feel anything like the same, and that destroys the whole idea.

Any suggestions?

Girl-from-Mars I didn't think about lentils, but some kind of lentils or dried peas might work really well, as long as the fabric that holds them is nice and thick otherwise they might be a bit lumpy and sharp.

It would be interesting to see if there are any viable replacements especially since certain things might affect comfort.

It turns out that there is something you can buy called BioFoam Beads and they are plant based and compostable, but they are probably also expensive.

It also turns out, from my research, that they are called bean bag chairs because they were originally filled with beans.

And I found another site that recommended any of these things as well: Popcorn kernels, rice, buckwheat hulls, dry beans, cedarwood shavings.

You could make a big table out of cookie and then just snap off a corner and eat it while you have coffee.
