There are a lot of discussions about diet and how everyone needs to eat less meat to save the planet.
Some people take these ideas a lot further than others, including fruitarians, of course I have heard of this diet many times before but I never really looked very deeply into what it actually is.
This is from Wikipeidia:
"Some fruitarians will eat only what falls (or would fall) naturally from a plant: that is, plant foods that can be harvested without killing or harming the plant. These foods consist primarily of culinary fruits, nuts, and seeds. According to author Adam Gollner, some fruitarians eat only fallen fruit. Some do not eat grains, believing it is unnatural to do so, and some fruitarians feel that it is improper for humans to eat seeds as they contain future plants, or nuts and seeds, or any food besides juicy fruit."
This seems very extreme to me, I can look at a cow and see an intelligent creature with emotions and that will understand pain, I don't look at a stalk of wheat and see the same thing though.
It is also not healthy at all according to most nutrition experts, with a big lack of many things including vitamin B12. Ashton Kutcher followed a fruitarian diet when he was preparing to play Steve Jobs in the biopic film, and ended up being hospitalised.
Are you, or do you know any fruitarians, and what do you think about this way of eating?
