Ladies and Gentlemen, it's that time of year again, Earth Day 2022 is here. It's that day of the year where we actually make a big deal out of the biggest issues facing humanity and the planet that supports us, and maybe remember to take some of the little actions that we should be taking every day anyway. The theme this year is 'Invest in Our Planet' which covers a pretty wide range of things, but seems to be largely targeted at businesses and city governments. In the words of the Earth Day organisers: "Unless businesses act now, climate change will ever more deeply damage economies, increase scarcity, drain profits and job prospects, and impact us all. Yet we already know that private sector innovation (with public support) accelerates the kind of rapid change we need, like nothing else. And it pays. Studies show a direct correlation between sustainable business practices, share prices, and business performance. Companies who develop strong Environment Social Governance (ESG) standards have better profitability, stronger financials, happier employees, and more resilient stock performance. Smart companies are discovering that it is no longer a choice between going green and growing long-term profits — sustainability is the path to prosperity . So for both humanitarian and business reasons, it is imperative that companies of all sizes take action and embrace the benefits of a green economy. Tell business leaders to get on board with a sustainable future or get out of the way ." There is as always an Earth Day Live stream on their YouTube channel, which has a few very important and current topics on the agenda including 'Environment in Time of War', which is clearly prompted by the current situation in Ukraine but is never really irrelevant because there seems to always be a war going on somewhere in the world. Plus there are events going on literally all over the world, both online and on the ground. Take a look at the map on the official website and see what is happening near you, then go and be a part of it. Whatever else you do, try to remember that while Earth Day is a great way to draw attention and spotlight specific issues, every day is the right day to take action to save the planet.
