I found this article at the BBC website about the Halligen.
https://www.bbc.com/future/article/20210216-the-islands-that-protect-germany-from-the-north-sea
They are German islands in the North sea that are just around sea level and many times a year they flood and everyone living there stays in the houses that are on hills they have built. Now because of climate change and the sea level getting higher they have to build the hills higher, but also they have to make the islands flood more because each time they flood and it drains away again the islands grow a little higher.
The government is willing to cover the cost of the building of higher hills and some experiments with sea walls and how to make them flood regularly in the right way because they are important as a natural defense against the sea of the east coast of the country.
I want to go there, and it seems like they have hotels, etc. I just hope they are on the higher ground 🙂
