I am looking for somewhere to upload and store my photos apart from Google Photos. It needs to be not super expensive (or free), easy, and if it is hosted green then it would be a nice plus as well. Anybody got any suggestions?

I use Imgur and I like it. Not sure it is using green hosting or not.

Apparently, Amazon Drive is a good green cloud storage option to keep in mind. Not sure if they have changed recently but they offered unlimited photo storage for a relatively cheap price (per year).

Ash Amazon You get free unlimited photo storage with Amazon Photos if you have Amazon Prime, I don't know how much it costs if you don't.

Yeah, just had a quick look and it's unlimited photo storage with Prime which is the best offer if you already have it or can take advantage of Prime Video and Delivery as well. Otherwise, the cheapest plan is for 100GB at £1.49 a month

If you use the streaming video, and get stuff delivered, then the Amazon Prime is the best deal ever!

Yeah, I was just going to say the same thing as Ashlynn really. My suggestion was to take advantage of Amazon especially if you have Prime but I guess you will have the same concerns with them.

It is not that I need so much space, it is more that I like being able to see all of the pictures and sort through them like I can with Google Photos instead of just having them as files in folders, if that makes sense.

Piwigo will do what you need, it's open source software that could be installed on any web hosting. The software is free, but of course you would need to pay for the hosting.

It fulfils all of your privacy needs, and if you choose a green hosting company then you get the sustainability part as well.

It looks nice and also has a nice app so you can upload to it directly from phone/tablet

So, I set up an instance of Piwigo and a couple of other open source solutions and decided that actually the best choice for most people who want to go down the route of having their own hosted photo storage is to use NextCloud, which you can also use to store other file types as well. Thick of it as a Google Drive with no privacy concerns 🙂

Looks very interesting. But I guess the only issue with that is that you have to worry about ensuring everything is secure and that there aren't any problems. Because one vulnerability would end up with a weirdo seeing all your photos

NextCloud is really good, and it gets better with every new release. It's also extenisible, so you can use it for something simple like file and photo storage, or use it as a whole collaborative suite for teams of people with 'office' alternatives and messaging.
