Julie Brooks-Girskiene I saw something about a company that is developing standardised batteries. If all of the vehicles used the same batteries, then at 'fuel' stations instead of waiting to charge, they would just get them switched out.
I think this is a brilliant idea. I didn't see anything about it for trucks, but I did see a video of a company that was developing it for cars. You would just drive onto the little platform thing, and a robotic system underneath removes the battery pack from the bottom of the car and replaces it with a fully charged one, I think it takes about four minutes.
The only problem is I can't imagine that many electric car makers are going to be very into it, at least at the moment. The main difference and selling point between them is all about battery capacity and range, Tesla seem to be way out ahead of most others on that and that sells them a lot of cars, I doubt they will be willing to give up that advantage for a standardised battery.
